Houses made of rounded logs. Projects of houses and cottages made of logs Projects of residential houses made of logs

Houses made from rounded logs look beautiful, provide a high level of coziness and comfort, and serve their owners for a long time. Ivales company designs and constructs such buildings. From us you can order turnkey construction and get a beautiful and cozy home at your disposal exactly on time.

Rounded log: what is it?

This is a popular material that is used in the construction of residential buildings and cottages, as well as bathhouses and various utility buildings. It is produced industrially: as a result of mechanical processing, which is called rounding, the top layer of wood is removed, and the log acquires a perfectly rounded shape.

The rounded log is thoroughly dried and then treated with special compounds that improve performance characteristics. Building from such material is simple and convenient, and the combination of the traditions of Russian wooden architecture with modern technologies allows you to build beautiful and durable houses with minimal time.

Advantages of houses made of rounded logs

Such houses have all the advantages that wooden buildings have. This:

  • the ability to do without a solid foundation due to the relatively light weight of the log house;
  • environmental friendliness - wood is a natural material, it provides natural air exchange and maintains a pleasant microclimate for humans;
  • durability - the building will serve its owners for decades, and a house made of rounded logs also has excellent earthquake resistance;
  • fast construction.
  • Separately, good aesthetic characteristics should be noted. Workpieces of the same diameter, having a flat, smooth surface, look beautiful and do not require additional external processing and finishing.

Log houses are the most traditional structure in Russia, because our country is rich in forests. Coniferous species are the most preferred for construction. Wood breathes and provides an optimal microclimate inside the home, so living in it will be comfortable and healthy.

At the same time, the cost of a log house will be significantly less than when choosing other building materials. The construction time for wooden buildings is relatively short.

You can choose ready-made house designs made from logs of any size.

Where should I start?

First of all, you need to decide on the architectural appearance of the future structure and study the most popular designs of log houses. Be sure to consider the following parameters:

  • the area of the land plot, which affects the size and location of the building;
  • family composition, the need to arrange guest rooms;
  • the type of soil on the site and the height of the groundwater - this is taken into account when planning the foundation and basement;
  • number of cars - is it necessary to build in a garage or will it be located separately;
  • preferred architectural style, type of roof;
  • the presence of pets and the need for separate premises for them.

The building may have an attic or ground floor, terraces, awnings and covered verandas. Studio "Alfaplan" offers various models of buildings: these are houses, bathhouses, gazebos made of logs (wood). You will be able to buy a log house project with a complete set of working documentation, according to which you can build a house.

What to build from?

The construction of the house can be carried out from ordinary or rounded logs. Logs processed on a milling machine have a smooth surface, the same size, look beautiful and expensive. They are often used in the construction of premium wooden houses and do not require additional processing. Their advantage is that exposed logs can be left in the interior, which is beautiful in itself, and is a significant saving on interiors. Untreated (unrounded) logs may have a slightly different diameter and uneven surface, however, they are stronger and more durable.

If a project that meets the needs of the family or the planned budget is not found, you can order a log house project from the Alfaplan company according to individual parameters. Its cost is noticeably higher, but full compliance with your requirements and desires will be ensured!

A log house is beautiful, fashionable and comfortable. This construction also reflects Russian national traits. Since ancient times in Rus', towers and huts were built from logs, in which several generations of the same family lived for centuries. Those wooden houses that are being built now are a continuation of the tradition of Russian architecture. And it should be noted that they have a huge number of fans.

This article will discuss and present the most current and in demand options for log houses today.

Peculiarities

The growing popularity of log buildings - houses, baths - is due to the growing demand for environmentally friendly materials, of which wood is the most environmentally friendly and beneficial for humans.

It is easy to breathe in such houses, this is especially important for people with lung problems or nasopharyngeal diseases. It is good to rest and gain strength in them; it is warm in winter and cool in summer. Thus, a log house can be an ideal option for country housing.

If we consider that wood itself is capable of maintaining an optimal level of humidity in rooms, either by absorbing excess moisture or releasing it when there is a shortage, then it becomes clear that this material is truly versatile and useful.

It is most convenient to build a house from rounded logs, since this does not require special equipment, you only need a team of qualified workers. It is better if they have previously dealt with the construction of real estate of this kind.

The customer can either use one of the many standard projects that currently exist, or carry out construction based on a solution individually developed in accordance with his wishes.

It is a mistake to think that wood, especially logs, is a bulky and heavy material. Yes, this is a solid, monumental structure, but the wood itself is unusually plastic. This is clearly seen in the example of old Russian churches, huts and towers.

From logs you can create a large hut, a two-story cottage, a small house with an attic, or a guest house-chalet. For each of the listed options, there are a lot of standard projects in any design bureau.

Wooden houses are in constant high demand for good reason. Such a structure has thinner and lighter walls, and therefore less weight, than, for example, brick or concrete. Therefore, the foundation under the structure may be less massive. Only foam and gas blocks, as well as sandwich panels, are lighter than wood, but they are not always to the liking of customers who want solidity and reliability for their home.

In addition, a wooden log house can be easily and quickly erected and has a very attractive appearance, especially if carved trim is used to decorate it.

There are two main disadvantages (besides the fairly high price, especially for rounded (calibrated) logs): flammability and susceptibility to rotting. Special compounds used to treat logs will help solve both of these problems: fire retardants against fire and antiseptics against rot and mold. Of course, no chemical composition will turn wood into a completely non-combustible material, but it will significantly reduce the rate of fire.

In addition, in a log house, the corners and crowns are hermetically connected, which eliminates the possibility of them being blown through and causing drafts.

If properly dried and properly treated wood is used, a structure can last up to 80 years. If the log is rounded and has the same diameter, such a house does not require finishing either inside or outside. He looks attractive without it.

Of course, a rounded log will cost more than, for example, a chopped log, but at the same time it is cheaper than profiled and laminated timber. Therefore, log houses are not the most expensive wooden buildings, and their external beauty is difficult to underestimate.

Another feature of such houses that should not be forgotten is their shrinkage. Since when logs are rounded their natural moisture is preserved, after the construction of the house the wood begins to dry out, which causes shrinkage. The maximum height loss due to shrinkage is 7 percent. This process continues on average from two to three years.

Drawings and diagrams

Classification of projects of houses made of rounded logs is made both by area and by architectural features.

Design can be carried out individually, in accordance with the wishes of the customer. Typically, these developments are expensive and include atypical design elements. The project can also be drawn up for a group of buildings (a house, a bathhouse, a garage, a summer kitchen, even a fence for a site) so that they are designed in the same style and form a single composition.

There are the following standard projects that are available in every architectural and design bureau:

  • up to 100 m2 (among them 6 by 8, 6x6, 8x8, 6x9, 9x9, 9 by 10 and other options);
  • from 100 to 200 m2 (for example, 150 sq. m);
  • more than 200 m2;
  • log house with garage;
  • cottage with veranda or terrace;
  • two-storey house;
  • house with a bathhouse;
  • cottage with ground floor;
  • houses with designer details - bay window, arched windows, complex roof configuration, columns.

For a country house, it is best to choose projects made from calibrated logs with an area of up to 100 m2; they are usually the most affordable. They can be supplemented with a terrace, veranda or garage. One-story buildings remain the most popular; they are good both for families of two people and for those with small children.

The most popular projects are 6x8, 8x8 and 6x9 m. They are not too small, but are quite budget-friendly. To build them, you don’t need a lot of material, especially if you choose a log with a small diameter.

Those who choose houses with an attic, as a rule, know how to calculate their finances. These houses are not as expensive as two-story ones, but at the same time, they have an almost full second floor. Their construction does not require a complex and massive foundation. In addition, on the second floor you can arrange any room depending on the needs and hobbies of the owners: a spacious children's room, a creative workshop, a billiard room, a gym.

The attic can be flush with the first floor or protruding forward above the facade. Then columns will serve as support for it. The protruding attic can, in turn, serve as a canopy for a summer terrace, where you can arrange an area for a barbecue, barbecue, or just a relaxation area. You can design an attic with a glazed loggia, it’s very beautiful. Then, during the cold season, it will be possible to place garden plants in it for the winter.

You can add a stove-heated bathhouse to a house with an attic by running a chimney pipe through the center of the house. In this case, you can live in it all year round, since the building will always be warm. It is possible to include in the project a house with an attic and a garage for both one and two cars, this will create even greater convenience for permanent residence.

As for two-story houses made of rounded logs, they are good for permanent residence of large families or people who like to frequently receive guests. On the ground floor, as a rule, there is a kitchen, dining room, bathhouse, and technical rooms. The second floor most often houses one or more bedrooms or recreation rooms.

An overview of a chopped wooden house can be seen in the following video.

Styles

Mostly log houses are designed in the style of Russian classics. However, this style is not the only one in which log houses are built. The Art Nouveau style with its multi-layered facades is in great demand among owners of country houses. Also popular are chalet houses with wide gable roofs and a mandatory terrace. Other features of the chalet are:

  • protruding, relatively wide cornice;
  • attic;
  • presence of dual lighting;
  • balcony inside.

Initially, chalets are Alpine village houses, but modern analogues look truly luxurious, while being the center of comfort for their inhabitants.

Scandinavian-style houses are characterized by great functionality; every square meter and even centimeter is used wisely. “Scandinavian” houses are characterized by the presence of an attic with a low ceiling, as well as a combined kitchen and living room. There is no terrace, but there is a veranda. Lovers of minimalism and rational use of space will really like these houses.

A cottage made of logs with a large diameter is a completely different option. This is a solid, reliable building, a real “fortress” for the owner. The use of thick logs (20-30 cm in diameter) is not practical from a practical point of view, and the price is very high. But, as a rule, those customers who decide to build just such a cottage think about the cost of lumber last.

This material is ideal for the construction of hunting lodges, as well as individual cottages at recreation centers.

Material calculation

Before starting construction, a project of the future house must be drawn up. In order for the process of constructing a log house to proceed quickly and without delay, absolutely everything must be taken into account in the project: from what type of wood will be used to how many cubes of wood are needed for construction.

Naturally, a drawing of the house is also needed. It will help you navigate both the placement of communication lines and the location of rooms. In general, it will become a cheat sheet against which the desired will be compared with the actual.

In addition, for each stage of future construction, it is necessary to develop an estimate in which all materials used, including consumables, as well as transportation costs and wages of hired workers, if they are invited, must be taken into account.

  • measure the length of all walls, partitions and partitions provided for in the drawing;
  • add up all the resulting numbers (this will determine the length of the timber required for flow at each level);
  • it is necessary to divide the height of the walls by the thickness of the timber (this is how the number of rows (logs) needed to build a house is calculated);
  • All that remains is to multiply the first and second digits (this will give you the total length of the timber that is needed for the construction of the cottage).

Customers using a material such as a log for the first time may be under the influence of stereotypes regarding it. The most common of them are: “very expensive material”, “massive structure with a small usable area”, “highly susceptible to fire”, “it takes a long time and is difficult to build a house”. None of these statements contain truth. Logs (both chopped and rounded) occupy an average position in cost among materials for building houses.

Yes, foam blocks, gas blocks, “Finnish houses” are cheaper. But profiled and laminated timber, as well as brick, are more expensive.

Wood is an extremely convenient material for construction. Due to the fact that a house made of rounded logs does not require interior finishing, space can be saved. In addition, houses made from such logs look solid, reliable, but not massive. Wood is very plastic; log houses look very neat due to careful fitting and joining of elements to each other.

Today no one builds houses from untreated wood. Each log is impregnated with both an antiseptic against rot and mold, and a fire retardant against fire. This makes the material much more resistant to both fire and rot.

If the log is rounded correctly and has the same diameter, building a house will not be difficult, and it will take little time. All you need is a team of workers.

The use of special heavy equipment is not necessary. Since the elements are the same, the walls are simply laid out from them, joining with grooves.

Projects made from rounded logs resemble a fairy-tale mansion or hut; they exude magic and history. Pleasant to the eye, rich colors and rounded shapes give the structure a unique sophistication. And it’s also very beautiful when, on your country plot, the finished house is complemented by other structures - for example, or a gazebo. Then all the buildings are combined into a single, stylish ensemble.

The price of a house project made from rounded logs is cheaper than hand-cut logs, concrete, brick or stone structures. Therefore, their price is more affordable than those of the listed materials. Advantages that provide savings in prices and operating costs include:

  • low thermal conductivity, which does not require insulation
  • natural beauty, which excludes large-scale finishing work
  • relative lightness of the log house, which does not require a complex, buried foundation

Turnkey rounded log projects

Construction from rounded logs on a turnkey basis is characterized by speed and also by such a feature as shrinkage within a year after completion of installation. Before production begins, a project must be developed. After design, you can order the material from any suitable manufacturer. For our part, we will design and calculate the price with high quality, taking into account the foundation, walls, roof, ceilings, windows and doors, and with a guarantee for inexpensive operation.

It all starts with a project, which can be standard or individual. The architects of the Russian Style company very often combine these two concepts. That is, a standard project is taken and modified in accordance with the customer’s preferences and other factors, which include: the area of the site and its relief, location relative to the cardinal points, financial capabilities of the customer, etc. Next, the material is selected, because the log has several varieties , for example, chopped and rounded, which in turn is divided into natural moisture and dried.

If we omit the details and do without details, the construction process looks like this:

  1. The site is being prepared
  2. The foundation is being built.
  3. The log house is being assembled.
  4. A rafter system with a temporary or permanent roof is installed.
  5. The perimeter is closed - this is when the roof is insulated, windows and entrance doors are installed, floors are insulated, painting is done and the outside of the house is already close to its finished appearance. Next comes the interior finishing of finishing floors, ceilings, painting walls and other carpentry work.

It is noteworthy that a turnkey house implies the presence of all utilities: water supply systems, drainage systems, ventilation, heating, etc. Of course, electricity must be supplied to the facility. That is, at its core, a turnkey house is an object completely ready for use. And the customer’s tasks come down to arranging the yard and surrounding area, as well as furnishing rooms and basic “establishment of everyday life.” All other work is performed by the company contracted to build the structure. Naturally, all worries about coordinating individual points and all organizational work fall on the shoulders of managers, who approve the desired option with the customer. In principle, the client does nothing, and his main task is to control the construction process.

Log house: how long will you have to wait for the housewarming party?

A building intended for permanent (all-season) residence is subject to increased requirements. And first of all, this concerns utilities, foundations, exterior and interior decoration. In addition, to reduce heat loss during construction, it is necessary to use a larger diameter log, at least 26 cm for the classic log profile and 24 cm for the “Finnish” profile. The speed of putting a facility into operation depends not only on the complexity of the project. Although, it is also clear that a small structure will be built faster than a large one. And in modern wooden architecture there are terms such as “shrinkage” and “shrinkage”, and it is they that affect the timing of housewarming. It is impossible to ignore these processes.

All wooden houses - logs and lumber - have one feature: they must shrink, which will take time if modern technologies that can work with this process are not applied. The fact is that every tree is a “living” material that changes its properties when it dries. Simply put, wood shrinks in size over time. This process is especially intense in the first year from the moment of construction of the log house, and continues for several years, but not so intensively (almost imperceptibly). The greatest shrinkage occurs in chopped logs. This figure can reach 10%. If you assemble a log house from it, it must sit for at least a year. Shrinkage of rounded logs with natural humidity is approximately 7%, and dried logs - 2%. The lower the percentage of shrinkage, the faster the shrinkage will occur, and you can begin finishing work. Modern technologies for assembling log structures make it possible to significantly reduce the time required for transition to finishing work. We are talking about systems for forced shrinkage of log houses, using hairpin lines or “force” units with compression springs. You can find out how these systems work and their cost by talking with the company’s managers.

Why are houses made from dried round logs the best option?

A country property built from rounded logs without natural moisture speeds up the time it takes to put the structure into operation. But we must take into account that this building material is easily susceptible to mold and insect pests, so it must be treated with antiseptic drugs, which is done in production conditions or during construction.

Houses made from dried rounded logs look very decent, but houses made from rounded logs with natural moisture look no less worthy, although they may have a slightly higher percentage of cracking. If the customer preferred the classic geometry of the log profile, then in the future a procedure for caulking the seams is required, where materials such as tow or decorative cord are used. But when the customer chooses a “Finnish profile”, caulking will only be needed in the corner joints of the log house, and decorating with cord is just a matter of taste.

Is it worth ordering the construction of a log house?

Yes, it is worth it, because it is economical, built from environmentally friendly materials and has a long list of advantages. When contacting the Russian Style company, the customer can choose not only the type of material, but also the type of wood. At the moment, it is possible to order the construction of a house from cedar, pine and spruce logs with a diameter of 22-32 cm of any profile. Samples of materials can be viewed at the company’s office, where there is also an opportunity to communicate with people who will implement the project.
