Terminology


Heat-resistant, heat-resistant and fire-resistant paints are suitable for painting surfaces with high temperatures. Fire retardants cannot be used. What are we going to paint?

Surface preparation and painting

It’s not enough to choose what paint to paint an iron stove in a bathhouse. You still need to properly prepare the surface. Some formulations require special preparation, or do not require it at all, then the procedure is described on the label, but basically the following actions are necessary:

  • All greasy or oil stains, water-soluble salts, old coatings, etc. are removed from the surface.
  • The rust is removed to a silvery metal. This can be done with sandpaper, a wire attachment on an angle grinder or drill, or you can sandblast the surface. In some cases, the use of rust converters is allowed, but this must be written in the passport. After treatment, the surface is washed and dried.   • Before applying the composition, the surface is degreased with solvents (solvent, xylene). After this treatment, paint must be applied no later than 6 hours after cleaning if work is carried out outdoors, and no later than 24 hours if work is carried out indoors.

The number of layers and their direction is individual. But if there are several layers, then they are usually applied in different directions - for better and more uniform painting of surfaces.

Each manufacturer indicates the temperatures at which the composition can be applied, how much time must pass before applying the second layer (if necessary), and under what conditions the coating must dry completely. There are very few proven homemade compounds that can be guaranteed to paint a metal stove. In essence, there is only one: aluminum powder is added to liquid glass and stirred well. Preparation and coloring process

It is worth considering that the layer applied from a spray can will be thinner. But, at the same time, aerosols are convenient to use, since the paints do not thicken, are applied more evenly, and you can easily work on joints and corners. If you paint with a roller, you get a special pattern.
